In a major initiative to empower youth and guide them toward professional careers, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Friday organised a large-scale Career Guidance and Counselling Fair at the Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib complex. The event saw participation from thousands of students and was inaugurated by Delhi Cabinet ministers Ashish Sood and Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

The fair featured stalls from various sectors including the Indian Army, Air Force, DRDO, civil aviation, engineering institutions and numerous colleges. Experts and representatives from these organisations engaged with students of classes X, XI and XII, providing career guidance and insights into a wide range of professional opportunities.

Lauding the efforts of DSGMC, Ashish Sood said the committee was “leading by example” when it came to providing essential services to society. “Through this fair, DSGMC is giving youth much-needed direction to choose professional careers that align with their aspirations. Other institutions should take inspiration from such initiatives,” he said.

Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa echoed the sentiment, stating that DSGMC had gone beyond its traditional role of managing gurdwaras by contributing significantly to education and healthcare. “From offering free education to the underprivileged to providing affordable medical services, including over 90,000 free dialysis treatments, DSGMC has consistently worked for public welfare. The Delhi government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will extend full support to its efforts,” he said.

DSGMC president Harmeet Singh Kalka and general secretary Jagdip Singh Kahlon emphasised the importance of career counselling in helping youth navigate their professional journeys. “Thousands of students will benefit from this initiative. Empowering the youth is one of our top priorities,” they said.

They also praised the new Delhi government, saying that after years of neglect, the people finally had an administration that valued Punjabi language and culture. “During the previous AAP government, Punjabi language and its teachers were sidelined. We hope the new government will restore their dignity and provide more job opportunities to the youth,” they added.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, educators and institutions alike, highlighting the growing need for structured career counselling and skill development platforms for the next generation.
