The Faridabad police have finally arrested the stalker who shot at a 17-year-old JEE aspirant in broad daylight in Shyam Colony, Ballabhgarh, on Monday evening.

The accused, identified as Jitendra alias Jatin Mangla (30), has confessed to the crime and revealed that he fired shots at the victim in a fit of rage after she refused to talk with him.

In the incident, two bullets grazed the victim in her shoulder and abdomen. She is still being treated. An FIR was registered at Ballabhgarh City police station.

The victim is a resident of Bhagat Singh Colony and a Class XII science student of the open education board. She visits a library in Shyam Colony to prepare for the JEE. On Monday evening, she had left the library with her friend when the accused arrived on a bike and fired at her twice.

A team of Crime Branch, Sector 65, arrested the accused on Wednesday. He is a resident of Sarmathla village near Sohna in Gurugram.

“During interrogation, the accused revealed that he worked in the accounting department at Rawal Institute College, Jakhopur in Faridabad. He had become familiar with the victim in 2024. He subsequently continued to harass and pressure her but she rejected him. On November 3, he followed her and asked to speak, but she refused. Enraged, he shot her. We are questioning the accused,” a police spokesperson said.
