According to police, Nitin had recently passed his Class XII exams and was preparing to enrol in college. His family, originally from Dhuni village in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, has been residing in Gurugram for several years. His father, Bhagwan Singh Mehra, works in a private company, as do his mother and 22-year-old sister.

On Tuesday morning, the entire family left for work, leaving Nitin alone at home. When his sister returned around 7 PM, she found the door to his room locked from inside. Peering through the window, she saw Nitin hanging from the fan. Neighbours rushed to help, broke open the door, and took him down. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The police recovered a suicide note from the room. In the note, Nitin expressed regret over excessive spending and cited it as the reason for his decision. He also left emotional instructions for his parents, asking them to take care of themselves, eat meals on time, and ensure his sister’s marriage happens according to her wishes. The body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
