The Delhi Police arrested the third shooter involved in the firing incidents at Alipur and Nangloi earlier this month following a brief exchange of gunfire, police officials said on Wednesday.

The Special Cell (Northern Range) was tasked with investigating the case. A police team set up a trap near Shahbad Dairy after receiving a tip-off that the accused would be in the area.

Ramniwas, alias Mogli, a resident of Khera Khurd village, was arrested early Wednesday morning after an exchange of gunfire, an officer said.

“Ramniwas was spotted riding a motorcycle. When signalled to stop, he accelerated and lost control of the bike, falling to the ground. He then fired two rounds at the police team. In retaliatory fire, the police shot him in the leg, and he was overpowered,” the officer added.

A semi-automatic pistol with four live rounds, a country-made pistol with two live rounds and a stolen motorcycle were recovered from his possession.

Meanwhile, his two accomplices — a sharpshooter and a minor — were arrested earlier by the Crime Branch team.

On November 4, three persons on a white scooter fired gunshots at a plywood shop in Nangloi and later at the office of a property dealer in Alipur in an attempt to extort money. They also left behind slips mentioning the names of jailed gangsters and photos of deceased gangsters Jitender Gogi and Kuldeep Fazza at the scenes, a police official said.

The police said Ramniwas had previously served time in jail for several cases, including attempt to murder, robbery and violations of the Arms Act. He had later joined the infamous Yogesh Tunda-Gogi gang.

“He was lured with the promise of money for carrying out shootings in Delhi. On November 4, he, along with his associates, fired at two different locations on the orders of gangsters Monty Maan, Yogesh Tunda and others,” said DCP (Special Cell, Northern Range) Amit Kaushik.
