Thousands take part in ‘Tiranga Run’ in national capital

The national capital was awash with patriotic fervour on Sunday as thousands of residents, schoolchildren and community groups took part in Independence Day events, including a grand Tiranga Run from Thyagaraj Stadium to the National War Memorial and a Bhavya Tiranga Yatra in Rohini.

Organised by the Directorate of Education, Government of Delhi, the Tiranga Run saw 7,900 children carry the tricolour along a symbolic route honouring India’s martyrs. Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood flagged off the run under the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign and the “Dilli Uthe Garv Se” theme.

“This is not merely a race but a celebration of unity, patriotism and the indomitable spirit of India,” Sood said, urging participants to draw inspiration from the courage and sacrifice of freedom fighters and the armed forces, including those who served in Operation Sindoor.

Meanwhile, in Rohini, Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker and local MLA Vijender Gupta led the Bhavya Tiranga Yatra, organised by Rohini F Mandal. The rally, which began at Naharpur Market and concluded at Azad Kabadi Chowk, drew enthusiastic participation from residents, RWAs, market associations and youth groups waving the tricolour and chanting slogans.

“The Tiranga is the pride of our nation and a symbol of the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters. It is not just a flag, but a living embodiment of our sovereignty, unity and the values enshrined in our Constitution. This Yatra is our way of honouring their legacy and reaffirming our collective responsibility to build a stronger, united India,” Gupta told the gathering, paying tribute to leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, as well as countless unsung heroes and Indian soldiers who displayed “extraordinary courage” in recent military operations
