The police have arrested three men for the murder of a labourer who was allegedly beaten to death during a dispute while drinking alcohol. The altercation reportedly stemmed from an argument over the theft of a bicycle belonging to one of the accused. An FIR has been registered at the Rajendra Park police station.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Hira Kumar, 35, a native of Mohanpur village in Madhubani district, Bihar. Kumar had been working as a labourer with a private company in Gurugram for the past ten years and was residing in a slum near G-99 Society in Sector 99.

On Monday, Kumar was taken to hospital in an injured condition. When police arrived, he was deemed unfit to give a statement and was subsequently referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning.

The deceased’s brother filed a complaint stating that he received a phone call informing him that his brother had been severely assaulted by three individuals: Sanjay Das, Prashnjeet and Hamidul Rehman. The accused allegedly fled the scene when local residents gathered. Kumar was rushed to hospital by slum residents, but he died during treatment.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case of murder and arrested all three accused. They have been identified as Sanjay Das, 28, Prashnjeet, 27, and Hamidul Rehman, 30 – all originally from West Bengal and reportedly co-workers of the deceased.

“During interrogation, the accused revealed that on Monday night, they were drinking alcohol with the deceased when a dispute arose between Hamidul Rehman and Hira Kumar over the former’s stolen bicycle,” said a Gurugram police spokesperson. “The argument escalated, and in a fit of rage, they assaulted Hira Kumar and fled. We are continuing to question the accused.”

Police investigations into the case are ongoing.
