A seven-year-old boy, kidnapped in West Delhi by his mother’s former live-in partner to pressure her into returning to him, has been rescued safely by the Delhi Police, they said on Friday.

The main accused, Ajay Verma from Hansi, Haryana, along with three associates, was arrested in this regard, they added.

The hunt stemmed from a complaint from the boy’s mother at Vikas Puri police station on September 28, reporting that her son had not returned from school the previous day.

She told the police that she suspected Verma’s role, citing his past violent and possessive behaviour during their relationship.

Investigators later confirmed that Verma had taken the extreme step of abducting the child, who is from the complainant’s earlier marriage, to force her into resuming the relationship.

A case was registered immediately and investigation was taken up.

The police analysed CCTV footage from the area that showed two men taking the boy away on a motorcycle.

Despite Verma switching off his phone repeatedly, police tracked his movements using technical surveillance and social media monitoring, an official said.

The search led to Hansi, where Verma was located at a farmhouse with the child and two of his associates, the cop mentioned.

The boy was rescued unharmed and the men were arrested. In a parallel operation, another accomplice from Delhi was apprehended and a country-made pistol was recovered from his house, the police officer added.

Police said Verma conspired with his friends Amit and Sachin from Hisar, who gave him shelter, while another associate from Vikas Puri in Delhi, helped him during the abduction.

They also recovered the mobile phones used in the crime and the pistol.

Moreover, two cases have been registered — one under kidnapping sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and another under the Arms Act.
