Triple engine govt should walk the talk: Delhi Congress chief

Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav on Saturday said with the BJP now in control of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) along with government at the Centre and in Delhi, it can no longer offer excuses for promises that remain unfulfilled. He demanded that the “triple engine” government immediately address key civic issues that have long plagued the city.

Yadav raised critical questions about the BJP’s plans to dismantle the massive landfill sites at Bhalswa, Ghazipur and Okhla, restore the pension of sanitation workers and remove the house tax burden on residents of unauthorised colonies. He urged the BJP to fix a clear timeline to deliver on these promises.

Highlighting the BJP’s pre-election commitments, Yadav said, “The people of Delhi are asking when the mountains of garbage will disappear, when pensions will be disbursed, and when relief from house tax will finally be granted.”

He added that the BJP had promised to tackle Delhi’s pressing issues, such as cleaning the Yamuna, removing mounds of garbage, repairing broken roads, addressing power outages and ensuring regular water supply. However, he accused the party of having made “lofty promises and grand announcements without corresponding work at the ground level.”

With Delhi’s civic infrastructure suffering during the previous AAP-led MCD administration, Yadav insisted that the BJP must act urgently to reverse the damage. “The Rekha Gupta-led Delhi Government has presented a Rs 1 lakh crore budget, and with no shortage of funds, there can be no excuses left,” he said.

He called upon the newly-elected BJP Mayor to immediately constitute the Standing Committee and other panels essential for the smooth functioning of the MCD, emphasising that governance must prioritise public interest over political gains.
