Two scrap dealers arrested in electrical equipment theft case

Two more persons were arrested in connection with an electrical equipment theft case, the police said here on Sunday.

The racket allegedly responsible for the theft was detected after the arrest of six persons on Friday.

A spokesperson of the Police Department said the accused, identified as Shekhupura Colony resident Rashid and Housing Board Colony resident Dilshaad, were apprehended by the crime branch of the police on Friday based on information given by the six persons previously nabbed. Both suspects worked as scrap dealers and had reportedly been involved in the purchase of the stolen electrical equipment.

The suspects were remanded to two-day police custody for interrogation, it is reported.

In this case, so far, cops have seized around 200-kg aluminium wire and iron plates, Rs 16,700 in cash, as well as the vehicle and tools used in the crime.

A probe into the matter was launched in response to a complaint lodged by officials of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam on December 26 regarding an incident of theft near Dudhola village of the district.
