The police have so far ruled out any foul play behind the incidents, which took place on November 4.
According to officials, the first incident came to light after Rathi Hospital informed the police about a girl admitted with severe burn injuries.
The victim, a Class XI student at a government school in Vikas Vihar, was alone at her home on the intervening night of November 3 and 4.
Her sister found her with burn injuries in the morning and rushed her to a hospital. Owing to her serious condition, she was referred to AIIMS.
“No suicide note has been found, and nothing suspicious has surfaced so far. Statements from her family members, neighbours and teachers have been recorded. Further enquiry is underway,” a senior officer said.
Investigations revealed that the girl allegedly poured thinner before setting herself on fire. She was reportedly suffering from depression for several months due to family issues and had shaved her head a few months ago, another officer added.
In another case, the police received a PCR call from Aashirwad Hospital regarding a man who had been brought dead after allegedly hanging himself at his residence in Vikas Nagar.
The 20-year-old youth, who was a MBA student at IITM College, Sagarpur, reportedly took the extreme step after being advised by a relative to limit his mobile phone use and focus on studies.
He was initially taken to Aashirwad Hospital and later shifted to DDU Hospital. “The body has been preserved at SGM Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The family has not alleged any foul play, and inquest proceedings are in progress,” the police said. While some local reports claimed that the two deceased individuals were in a relationship, the police clarified that no such link had been established in their ongoing enquiry.
