Vegetable vendor held with over 200-gm heroin

The Delhi Police have arrested a vegetable vendor with over 200 grams of heroin at the Anand Vihar railway station. The accused has been identified as Rahul, a resident of Budaun in Uttar Pradesh. He was nabbed after the police laid a trap near Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg, adjacent to the station, on July 17.

According to a senior police officer, a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Initial interrogation revealed that Rahul, who studied up to Class XII and worked as a vegetable vendor, turned to drug trafficking to earn quick money.

The police said he used to procure heroin from Bareilly and supply it to contacts in Delhi, disguising himself as a regular commuter at crowded transit points to avoid suspicion.

Rahul allegedly acted as a courier person in the drug network. The police are now tracing backward and forward links of the supply chain, including the source in Bareilly and intended buyers in the Capital.
