According to the police, a team noticed a person riding a motorcycle without a registration plate near Zero Pushta, close to Bijli Ghar, around 2 am. When signalled to stop, the accused opened fire at the police team.

The team directed him to surrender, but he fired again aiming at Constable Paramjeet. Assessing the situation, the police team retaliated by firing two rounds, one of which hit the accused on his left leg. He was subsequently overpowered and apprehended, an official said.

A semi-automatic pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from his possession. The motorcycle he was riding was found to be stolen from the Jyoti Nagar area, the official added.
