In 2006, Rakesh, along with his accomplices Ranjit and Lakhwir, was travelling to Ambala via Faridabad with Chura-post in a car. When Faridabad police stopped them on GT Road, Lakhwir and Rinku managed to flee while Ranjit was arrested. The police recovered 200 kg of Chura-post from their car, and an FIR was registered at City police station, Ballabhgarh. Later in 2006, Lakhwir was also arrested, but Rakesh remained on the run.
