Born and raised in Haryana's Bahadurgarh, Aryan Maan, the newly elected president of Delhi University Students' Union, scripted a new story on Friday.

As a candidate of RSS linked Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Mann bagged the position of president of the top central varsity's students' body defeating Congress linked National Students' Union of India Joslyn Nandita Choudhary by a margin of 16,196 votes.

Maan polled 28,841 while Joslyn could only manage 12,645 votes. With Mann’s victory, ABVP has wrested back DUSU chief's post which NSUI's Ronak had bagged after a gap of seven years in 2023.

A Bahadurgarh boy, Maan finished primary education from St. Thomas School from the Haryana district and then moved to Delhi to complete grade 12 from GD Goenka School in Vasant Kunj.

It is noteworthy that Mann had also filed nominations last year as ABVP’s probable candidate, but could not secure a ticket. He had then withdrawn his nomination.

Maan drew the attention of students during his campaign when Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt posted a video in his support on social media. "Aryan is like my nephew. I request all students to support him and vote for him," Dutt can be seen saying in the video.

“Truly grateful to you, @duttsanjay Uncle, Your Blessings and Support mean a lot me,” Mann replied to the video on his X.

After the video, NSUI launched a campaign against Mann claiming that his family owns an alcohol brand.

Maan ignored the allegations. Many notable personalities canvassed for him including Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma, actor Randeep Hooda and BJP Haryana in charge Satish Poonia.

"This win reflects the patriotic spirit of Gen-Z generation, which places the ideals of India’s unity, integrity, and nation-building above everything else," said Maan.

“Students of DU have sent a clear message against tukde tukde gang," he said attacking the Congress and Left leaning students unions for their support to ex JNU Students Union chief and incumbent AICC in charge of NSUI Kanhaiya Kumar, who had faced accusations of sedition.
