An Army officer died by suicide at the Garuda Sharath Officers’ Guest House located within the Delhi Cantonment on Tuesday, police officials said on Thursday.

The officer has been identified as Military Nursing Service (MNS) Captain Renu Tanwar, wife of Flight Lieutenant Deen Dayal Deep.

She allegedly died by suicide just a day after her husband also reportedly took his life at his posting in Agra.

DCP (South West) Surendra Chaudhary said, “The information was first received from havildar Dinesh Kumar, who is posted at the Garuda Sharath Officers’ Mess on Polo Road.”

Following this, a police team rushed to the scene, where it found the officer’s body hanging from a ceiling fan in one of the guest house rooms, marked as “Millian 01”.

“A crime team and officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) were immediately summoned to the site for a thorough inspection of the crime scene and evidence collection,” the DCP added.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Captain Tanwar had checked into the guest house the previous evening, on October 14 with her brother Sumit and mother Kaushalya, who was in Delhi for medical treatment.

“She had come to Delhi around 8 pm with her family members to seek treatment for her mother,” the police official said.

Shockingly, it was later discovered that Captain Tanwar’s husband, Flight Lieutenant Deen Dayal Deep, had also taken his life on the same day in Agra. The couple reportedly had a love marriage, cops said.

The police confirmed that a suicide note was found at the scene in Delhi, which did not level any allegations against any individual.

The post-mortem examination of Captain Tanwar was conducted at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital on Wednesday. Her body was handed over to her father for cremation, they said.

Meanwhile, Agra ACP Mayank Tiwari said the postmortem revealed asphyxiation to be the cause of the death. However, no suicide note was found from him.

The police are suspecting that there was dispute among the families. Meanwhile, the suicide note recovered from the guest house in Delhi Cantonment mentioned that she should be cremated hand-in-hand with her husband.
