According to the complaint filed by her father Rampal, Rani married Ankit, on June 2, 2023. Soon after the marriage, she was allegedly harassed Ankit, mother-in-law Geeta and father-in-law Mahender for dowry.

The family first demanded money to purchase a motorcycle and later asked for a television and jewellery.

When the demands were not met, Rani was allegedly subjected to physical abuse, the complainant told the police. She was even sent back to her parental home on multiple occasions.

On the intervening night of September 28-29, around 2.30 am, Ankit informed Rampal that Rani had hanged herself.
