The building collapsed while girders were being removed from the structure, according to police and fire officials.
Multiple emergency calls were received between 3:07 pm and 3:21 pm, reporting that a building had collapsed and several people, including a mother and daughter, were trapped under the debris.
The building is located in the Hastsal Vihar area. Preliminary investigations revealed that the structure consisted of a ground floor, a first floor and a partially constructed second floor where the girders were being removed. Officials stated that Pradeep Yadav and his wife were in the process of taking out the girders when a section of the building caved in.
The woman and her daughter were identified as Poonam, wife of Neeraj (36), and their daughter, Navya. The building earlier belonged to Neeraj.
During the rescue operation, Poonam and Navya were extracted from the debris and rushed to a nearby hospital. Poonam succumbed to her injuries, while Navya is undergoing treatment.
Sonu Yadav and Pradeep Yadav had purchased the 48-square-yard property from Neeraj. The police said Neeraj and his family were expected to vacate the property by October 20.
The authorities are still clearing the debris to ensure no other people are trapped. Further investigation is underway to determine if any safety norms were violated during the construction work.
