Women scribes sue Abhijit Iyer-Mitra over ‘prostitutes’ remark

Nine women journalists have approached the Delhi High Court against Abhijit Iyer-Mitra after he allegedly referred to them as “prostitutes”.

The journalists, represented by advocates Uddhav Khanna and Dhruva Vig, have sought a direction to restrain Iyer-Mitra from publishing further defamatory content.

The suit highlights eight “revolting posts” made by him on X (formerly Twitter) between February and May 2025.

“The defendant number 1 (Iyer-Mitra) has clearly launched a series of scathing and belligerent attacks against the plaintiffs. As such, the defendant no. 1 cannot be permitted to disseminate falsities, only with the oblique motive to gain cheap publicity and eyeballs,” the defamation suit states.

The plaintiffs have demanded a written apology along with Rs 2 crore in damages.

Reacting to the development, Iyer-Mitra took to X and said “This will be fought in court all the way.”
