The family is now working to bring his body back to India through the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Embassy.
According to information, Gurkirtan had gone to Saudi Arabia on a work visa and was working as a truck driver. A youth who worked with him informed the family that the accident occurred on Diwali day. Gurkirtan was loading goods onto a truck when a major accident occurred while the vehicle was reversing. He was struck and severely injured by a large boulder and died in the hospital during treatment.
Gurkirtan’s family is financially weak. His father, Gurnam Singh, worked as a mason and had barely managed to raise the money to send his son abroad. However, fate had other plans. Villagers are trying to console Gurkirtan’s inconsolable mother, Chhinderpal Kaur. Villagers said that Gurkirtan had recently visited the village on a two-month leave for Rakshabandhan before returning to Saudi Arabia.
Gurkirtan’s maternal uncle, Baljinder Singh, said that two youths from Punjab and Salasar in Rajasthan called from Dammam to inform the family about the accident. These youths worked in the same company as Gurkirtan. People said that bringing the body back to India poses many challenges. However, Gurkirtan’s fellow youths and other Indian expatriates in Dammam are assisting. They are in contact with the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia and are trying to complete all the necessary formalities.
The company where Gurkirtan worked is also providing assistance in bringing the body back to the village. This process may take several days due to the legal implications and international regulations involved. The family has contacted the Ministry of External Affairs and appealed for the early repatriation of the body.
