Video: Kapil Sharma's Canadian Kap’s Cafe attack motivated by retaliation; terrorist Laddi's link to past comment

A newly opened café owned by popular Indian comedian Kapil Sharma, Kap’s Cafe, was targeted in a shocking act of violence on Wednesday night. The incident occurred just days after the café launched in Surrey, British Columbia, on July 4.

According to local authorities, a man sitting in a parked car opened fire on the café, discharging at least nine bullets into its front window. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though the property sustained damage. CCTV footage and ballistic evidence are being analysed as part of the ongoing investigation.

The attack has been claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi, a Germany-based Khalistani terrorist and operative of the banned group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

Laddi, who is listed among India’s most wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), reportedly ordered the attack in retaliation for a past remark allegedly made by Kapil Sharma that he found offensive. Laddi is also wanted for his alleged role in several terror-related incidents, including the April 2024 killing of a VHP leader.

Following the incident, Kap’s Cafe issued a heartfelt message on Instagram, expressing sorrow and resilience: “We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock but we are not giving up.”

The café also thanked its supporters for their messages of solidarity and specifically acknowledged Surrey Police and Delta Police for their prompt response in securing the area and ensuring public safety.

The message concluded with a call to stand united against violence, under the hashtag #SupportKapsCafeCanada.
