When I read the story and got to know about my character’s personality, I was certain that this role would not only be challenging but a huge milestone in my career. I have been wanting to do a project that would not only bring me recognition as an actor, but also spread a sense of awareness in society.
Tell us more about your character…
I will be portraying the role of Diya, who hails from a middle-class Bengali family. My character in the show stands for a lot of positivity and she believes that every cloud has a silver lining.
Since Diya hails from a Bengali family, did you learn Bengali for the role?
I haven’t been able to learn a lot of Bengali because I don’t really need to use it as such, but I am trying to get a better understanding of the tone and style in which people here speak, so that it doesn’t affect my character and its authenticity on screen.
Is this your first experience of shooting in Kolkata?
I have always wanted to visit Kolkata and explore the city, since I’ve heard a lot about the place. Luckily, Rishton Ka Manjha happened at the right time and I am excited about shooting in Kolkata.
How do you feel about making your debut as a lead?
While I have acted before, this character truly marks my debut as a lead, and it gives me immense pleasure and pride to take up this role. It feels great to have finally got what I wanted for so long.
Will the show delve into the topic of depression and mental health?
Depression and mental health are two intense subjects. While our show is sensitive to both these concerns, it aims at projecting hope and giving people a reason to believe that there is always a brighter side.
How is your equation with co-star Krushal Ahuja?
We are in the process of still getting to know each other well, and with every passing day I think our bond is getting stronger.
Given the current scenario, what are your thoughts on mental health and the taboo that has been surrounding it?
Mental illness is as fatal as any physical injury. It’s imperative that we start taking mental health seriously, especially when a pandemic has already taken a toll on our physical and mental strength.
Would you be keen on taking up choreography projects in the future?
I am open to all kind of opportunities that come my way. In fact, I’ve always wanted to be a choreographer before getting into acting, and that passion for dance is intact .
