My role models are people who have made it to the top by pure hard work and are known for their polite nature. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vidya Balan, Rajkummar Rao—as they have proved themselves.

What, according to you, is the mantra for success?

Fight back hard, never let failure be an end, just focus on your goals, believe in honesty and work smartly—that’s my success mantra.

If not an actor then I would be a director.

When you decided to be an actor, did your family support you?

My mother is very supportive but my father was not. It takes courage to leave home and start working but by God’s grace everything is going fine .

Your favourite Punjabi food?

I am a big-time foodie, but I go bonkers for rajma-chawal and makki ki roti. I love kada prasad from Gurdwaras. —Dharam Pal
