“If you want freedom from starvation, then you have to work; if you want freedom from caste, then you have to work”, said veteran actor Anupam Kher on Thursday, when he shared a video to “discuss” the slogans of “independence” being raised in the country.

In a 2:20-minute clip, Kher was heard saying: “Friends, I do not understand one thing, people who raise the slogans of independence, what do they want to say, because the country was liberated on August 15, 1947. Our ancestors have fought a lot for that. If you want freedom from Manuwaad, freedom from hunger, freedom from caste, you have to work for it”.

“Many people worked. Why would you raise slogans? You will not get food sitting at home, you will have to work. People have worked for the country that came from 1947 to 2020. What freedom are they seeking? Work for the country, nothing will happen with mere slogans”.

The 64-year-old actor posted the video on Twitter, and wrote in Hindi: “Aazaad bhaarat mein agar hamen kisee bhee cheez se aazaadee chaahye to usake lie hamen kaam karana chaahie. jo ki desh ke karodon yuva kar rahe hain. alag alag feeldas mein.desh ko pragati kee or le jaane ke lie.naaron se jo aazaadee praapt karana chaahate hain unaka desh ke prati sivaay naaron ke aur kya yogadaan hai?” (“In independent India, if we want freedom from anything, then we should work for it. Which is doing crores of youth of the country. In different fields. To take the country towards progress. What is the contribution of slogans except those who want to get freedom from the slaves?”)
