What makes India’s Best Dancer different from other dance reality shows?

The format of the show is quite refreshing. The contestants will get only 90 seconds to give their best shot in front of the judges. They will have to impress us with their three ‘best’ moves in order to gain an entry ticket to the mega auditions. From a large number of talented contestants, we will pick the absolute ‘best barah’.

How much has dance helped you in real life?

Dance is not just a creative pursuit, but it also helps in developing discipline and dedication in life. While one should dance for the pure joy of having a good time, but to be able to master anything, it’s important to cultivate consistency and commitment.

What are the key aspects that you will be looking at while judging a contestant?

We will be judging the contestants based on three main elements, which are—entertainment, newness and technique. Therefore, we are calling ourselves the ENT specialists. While Geeta will be evaluating them on the novelty factor, Terence will scrutinise their dance techniques, and I will be assessing the entertainment quotient in their performances.

Many people are now learning dance through the internet. Do you think it’s a good thing?

There is more than one way to learn things and it’s nice that children today have different avenues available to them. Many contestants have not received any formal training and have learnt dancing only through internet. Having said that, I do recommend formal training.

Who according to you is the best dancer in the industry and why?

Hrithik Roshan and Madhuri Dixit. What they have contributed to the industry is commendable. From the current generation of actors, I’d say Tiger Shroff is quite good at what he does. Having said that, my all-time favourite is Michael Jackson.

If not dance, what would have been your fall-back option?

I guess it would have been modelling. I began my journey as a model, and I am glad to have walked the ramp for some supremely talented designers.

Who is your inspiration when it comes to dance?

There have been many dancing legends who have carved a niche for themselves with their dancing style. Vyjayanthimala and Rekhaji are some of the iconic dancers.

Describe your co-judges in one word…

Terence is ‘terrific’ and Geeta is ‘inspirational’.

If you had to give one song for your co-judge to perform on, which one would it be and why?

I’d like to see Terence perform on Satrangi Re from Dil Se. I feel he will lend a beautiful take to the song with his contemporary act. And Geeta’s version of Rangeela Re from the film Prem Pujari will be something to look out for.
