Daily soaps give stability to an actor. What’s your take on this?

Absolutely! In today’s time, acting is more of a profession than a hobby and with daily soaps you cannot do anything else because it takes your entire time. There’s always insecurity about how long the show will air. But if you are a part of a show like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, you can’t help but be grateful!

What’s the importance of drama in a show?

Without drama I don’t think people would even watch a show. If there is no drama in life, there would be no emotional connect.

I love it when people connect with me on Instagram and tell me that they respect me for the character I am playing. They love me as a mom. They are enjoying the mother-son bond and mother-daughter bond. Listening to all these reviews makes me overwhelmed because I am a mother too and I can totally relate to this character.

Do you carry your character home?

No, I don’t carry any character home. I have learnt this with experience. This wasn’t the case earlier but with experience, I know that I have to draw a line between my personal and professional life.

How important is social media in your life?

I joined social media like Instagram after coming into the show. I had an account earlier but I didn’t know what to do with it. But now, I know how things work and how we are supposed to stay connected with the audiences and it is actually a lot of fun. I like it because I get one-on-one responses for everything.

How has been the experience of working with Rajan Shahi?

Everybody used to tell me that I was lucky to be a part of this production. And now, I know why they said so. People here are mind blowing! They are so cooperative and understanding.

What is the secret of a good performance?

For me it is the entire package—your scene, your dialogues, the direction, and most important of all is your co-actor. So, I observe the person in front of me and based on that I deliver my dialogues.
