What made you say yes to a Punjabi soap?

The credit goes to Sahiil Kohlii. We have worked together earlier and wanted to start something fresh. When he came up with this project, I loved the storyline.

What’s your role in Mawaan Thandiyan Chawan?

I play a cop, so you will see me in uniform. It’s a new look, the beard goes but the moustache stays. I am pretty kicked about it. A few days on the sets, and I am quite loving it!

Playing Naitik in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai made you popular. How does it feel?

Yeh Rishta…is an iconic show. I was a part of it for eight long years. Playing Naitik got me love from audiences. I feel fortunate that I was a part of this remarkable journey.

Are you planning to do Punjabi films?

I am a Punjabi, so it is on my mind to explore this sector. In the last 10 days, I got quite a few offers. I thought of working on my skills first with Mawaan Thandiyan Chawan. I am getting my Punjabi accent right. I make it a point to converse with everyone around in Punjabi.

We hear Karan Mehra is a foodie…

Can’t help it, being a Punjabi! You know how life revolves around food. I need nothing fancy, just simple ghar ka khana.

Any lockdown lessons?

Nothing much, I have been the same person except that today I am more digitally connected than I was in the pre-lockdown phase. I have worked throughout the lockdown. In fact, I worked more than ever. Three projects got locked during this phase.

Your message to fans?

Thanks for all the love and blessings. I am hoping Mawaan Thandiyan Chawan wins you all over again; it would be soon on air on Zee Punjabi!
