#Afghanistan trends as celebrities express their concern
On Sunday, Taliban took over Afghanistan’s capital Kabul and people were worried that radicalism will again lead to a clamp down of women and human rights in the war-torn nation. Expressing concern on this, several members of the film industry took to their social media handles and poured their thoughts as well as prayers for the people of Afghanistan.
Filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor tweeted, “Special prayer… for the people of Afghanistan. A nation wrecked and destroyed by colonial ambitions of foreign powers. #Afganistan.” Sonu Sood wrote, “Afghanistan stay strong. Whole world is praying for you.” Farhan Akhtar also tweeted, “The only thing the powers of the world need to talking about right now is how to help innocent Afghans. Not in days and time to come. Now.” Samantha Akkineni wrote, “Are we really going to sit back and watch this happen?”
Using the hashtag #SmashThePatriarchy, Rhea Chakraborty wrote, “While women around the globe fight for pay parity, women in Afghanistan are being sold – They have become the pay.”
Anurag Kashyap and Hansal Mehta shared Afghan independent filmmaker Sahraa Karimi’s August 13 open letter requesting the film communities of the world to be the voice of the people of Afghanistan in this hour of crisis.
Meanwhile, in one of her tweets, Swara Bhaskar wrote, “We can’t be okay with Hindutva terror & be all shocked and devastated at Taliban terror…& We can’t be chill with #Taliban terror; and then be all indignant about #Hindutva terror! Our humanitarian & ethical values should not be based on identity of the oppressor or oppressed.”
