The Netflix series, Little Things, has drawn our attention to urban lifestyle and the vulnerabilities associated with it. As the modern couple’s (Dhruv and Kavya) journey continues from Season 1 to Season 3, both the story and characters have evolved.

Chandigarh girl, Garima Pura Patialvi, as goes her pen name, is one among the four writers of Little Things, Season 3. This is the first time that the makers of this web series have experimented with the concept of writers’ room.

Garima explains, “We worked for around five months in the writers’ room. We means Dhruv Sehgal (writer and lead actor for all seasons), Nupur Pai, Abhinandan Sridhar and I. Apart from that, we had the room assistant Piyush Thoravat, who handled the logistics and production. He was there to make sure that any thought or input doesn’t not go unnoticed. Apart from Nupur, who also worked in writers’ room for AIB (All-India Bakchod), we all were introduced to the concept for the first time.”

After completing her work for Season 3, Garima took a break and came back to Chandigarh to visit her family. “I always thought writing was a solitary process. But after this writers’ room experience, I obviously evolved as a person and writer. I now understand various terms, which I initially had no idea about. I can work on a character and episode arch and beat sheets easily. Working in group expands your perspective and idea bounces off from one person to another and turns out better. I am working as a co-writer on another web series on another OTT channel,” she says.

Garima recommends two of her favourite books for every millennial, Fear of Flying by Erica Jong and Anatomy of Hate by Revati Laul.

Garima was born in Patiala, and hence her surname Patialvi, which she added later as a tribute to her birth place. After schooling, she went to Pune to graduate from Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication. She later developed an interest in documentary filmmaking. Her Instagram profile reads—persistent screenwriter, occasional director and an infrequent journalist.

Ever thought that she would be writing for a web series, and she says, “I always wished to do something that will help me bring a positive change into the world. While I initially thought I could do it by making documentaries but that did not help me become independent and earn enough. Writing for digital platforms not only pays well but by associating with good projects will help me send the message I want to put across through my work.”

Garima travels for a cause. She recently went to Meena Bagh and Ratnari in Himachal Pradesh for a cleanliness drive.
