Hoshiarpur, December 27
In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the state under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, the Hoshiarpur district administration has launched a free driving training programme for girls and women. Industry and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora today launched the scheme in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia.
Arora said it was a wonderful initiative by the district administration towards women empowerment. He said women could get self-employment by running a taxi under the Home-to-Work Employment Scheme of the Punjab Government, which was the main objective of the project.
The training will be given every Saturday and Sunday on the automated driving test track at Tanda Road in Hoshiarpur. The training has been started with 20 girls of Government College, Hoshiarpur. This batch will receive free training on weekends from 10 am to 5 pm. He said each girl would be given training in a vehicle for half an hour. This batch will take a total of 20 classes over two and a half months. Certificates would be given to them on the completion of the training. Those who pass the batch will be assisted in getting driving licence for free.
