A police spokesperson said officials had nabbed Sarjeet, alias Bhura, a resident of Khatka village, on Sunday for assaulting on some officials on February 2 near Khambi village in the district. The other five accused, who were identified as Rahish, Mahender, Rohtas, Satpal and Sammi had been arrested earlier, but Sarjeet had been absconding since then.

A mob of 10 to 12 persons had attacked police and Enforcement Bureau officials near the Banikhera bridge when they were on their way with a confiscated tractor-trailer, laden with river sand. He said the vehicle was impounded by the team near Khambi as the driver of the tractor-trailer had failed to produce the permission or authority letter of the mined sand taken by him during a surprise check.

However, some persons, who had intercepted the officials, not only attacked the team with sticks but also took away the tractor-trailer after damaging the police vehicle. A case under various sections, including assault, obstruction in government duty and illegal mining, had been registered against the accused. While the sixth accused was sent to judicial custody on Monday, more arrests were not ruled out as the investigation had still been on into the matter, said an official.
