1 held for Rs 1-cr extortion demand from brick-kiln owner

With the arrest of a miscreant, the anti-gangster unit of the Sonepat police have claimed to have solved an extortion case in which the accused demanded Rs 1 crore extortion money from a brick-kiln owner.

The accused demanded the money in the name of Rohit Godara, a close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The police produced the accused before court on Thursday, which sent him to police custody for three days.

Cops also seized Rs 3 lakh from the accused, which he took as extortion money from the brick-kiln owner.

Rajpal Singh, ACP (Crime), said the brick-kiln owner, in his complaint to the Mohana police, on December 4 said he owned many brick-kilns and he had received a call on his Whatsapp in which the caller demanded Rs 1 crore extortion money from him within three days, failing which he would be shot.

Following the complaint, the Mohana police registered a case and began probe in the matter. The anti-gangster unit of the Sonepat police, led by inspector Ajay Dhankar, nabbed one accused Ganguli, alias Gaurav, of Khandewala village in Gurugram district. After that, the deal was finalised in installments and the gangsters called him near Khandewla village in Farrukhnagar of Gurugram and told him to leave the bag at a place.

As per the planning, the police team laid the trap there. As Gaurav picked up the bag, the anti-gangster unit nabbed him from the spot, Inspector Ajay Dhankar, in charge, anti-gangster unit, said it was revealed during the preliminary investigation that cousin of the accused Bhanu Pratap, alias Bhushan, went to the USA on work visa on Diwali. After reaching there, he made a plan and asked Gaurav to pick the bag, which would be dropped from a Fortuner vehicle, the Inspector said. The cops were in plain clothes and as Gaurav picked the bag from the road, he was nabbed from the spot.
