Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsAs the historic moment arrives on November 24, when Hisar native, Chief Justice-designate Surya Kant will be administered the oath of office at Ashoka Hall in Rashtrapati Bhawan, family members and 136 advocates from the District Bar Association (DBA), Hisar, have been invited by the Supreme Court to attend the function.
Rishi Kant, the elder brother of Justice Surya Kant, informed 'The Tribune' that some of the family members will attend the ceremony. “I, along with some family members, will be present there. Some other villagers have also been invited by the Supreme Court," he said.
Meanwhile, DBA president Sandeep Boora said 136 advocates would attend the ceremony, where Justice Surya Kant would take over as the 53rd Chief Justice of India. He said the Supreme Court administration had extended a special invitation to the Hisar Bar Association and special passes had been issued.
The passes and invitation letters were handed over to the lawyers by office-bearers of the association at the Bar Library on Friday.
DBA secretary Sameer Bhatia said Justice Surya Kant had a deep connection with Hisar. “He began his legal career as an advocate at the district courts in 1984-85 and practiced here for nearly six months. He worked as an assistant to senior advocate the late Atma Ram Bansal. For the Hisar Bar, it is a moment of pride that one of its former members has reached the highest judicial post in the country,” he added.
The DBA president and secretary have been invited for the Ashoka Hall ceremony while the other advocates would be attending the event in the SC complex to witness the live proceedings.
