The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has issued a notice to an inspector after around 1,500 bags of wheat were found missing from the department’s Kunjpura godown in Karnal.

The discrepancy, pertaining to the 2024–25 procurement season, was uncovered during a surprise inspection by the Chief Minister's flying squad last week. Following the inspection, the squad submitted a detailed report highlighting the shortage, prompting the department to issue the notice.

The inspector has been given 15 days to replenish the missing stock. Failure to do so will result in legal action.

“A team of the CM flying squad found around 1,500 bags of wheat missing at the department godown. We have issued a notice to the inspector concerned and directed him to complete the stock in 15 days, otherwise we will get an FIR registered,” said Anil Kumar, District Food and Supply Controller (DFSC), Karnal.

In response to the incident, the department has also formed a team to verify the wheat stock for the ongoing 2025–26 procurement season. This action follows a formal complaint from a local resident who flagged possible irregularities and demanded a comprehensive probe into last season’s stock records.

The Kunjpura godown has faced scrutiny in the past as well. In a similar case last year, 369 bags of wheat were reported missing from the same facility.
