16 villages, 6 wards in Jind declared drug-free by police

The Hisar range police today claimed that 16 villages and six municipal wards of urban areas were drug-free now.

Additional Director General of Police ( ADGP) Hisar Range Dr M Ravi Kiran honoured the people who made a collective effort for this at a function organised in Lodhar village of the district.

Jind Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Kumar was also present on the occasion.

The event was jointly organised by the police and village panchayat to celebrate the efforts of the local people who collaborated with the police to identify and rehabilitate drug-affected individuals, ensuring their areas were freed from drug-related issues. Among the villages which were declared drug-free are Lodhar, Ghaso Kalan, Ghaso Khurd, Kaloda Khurd, Jajanwala, Naihara, Kuchrana Khurd, Kuchrana Kalan, Barah Kalan, Mandi Kalan, Shamlo Khurd, Ramkali, Gosai Khera, Narayangarh, Hamirgarh, and multiple wards in Jind, Uchana, Julana.

Addressing the gathering, the ADGP said there was the growing menace of drug abuse and called for collective efforts to tackle this social evil. He remarked, "Drug addiction impacts not just an individual but entire families and communities. With the joint efforts of all stakeholders, Jind could soon become the first drug-free district in Haryana." He further encouraged local residents, urging families to educate and guide their youth away from substance abuse.

SP Rajesh Kumar echoed similar sentiments and emphasised the need for a systematic approach. "Our aim is to survey every village in the district and progressively declare these drug-free," he said. He highlighted that the police had already made 66 villages and nine wards drug-free as part of the ongoing campaign. Kumar also urged residents to report drug-related activities to the police and assured them of complete support.

The event was marked by the planting of trees, promoting environmental awareness alongside the anti-drug initiative. The ADGP noted that tackling drug abuse required a dual approach, addressing both the supply chain and reducing demand within society. He called on families and social organisations to play a proactive role in guiding and protecting the youth.

Sarpanch and other community leaders, including Surender, president of the Maharishi Lomash Tirth Seva Samiti, and Pradeep Redhu, president of the Youth Development Committee Jind, commended the police for their dedication.

The event was attended by sarpanches, municipal councillors and prominent community members. The sarpanch of Lodhar and Sukhmila, welcomed the dignitaries and lauded the police administration’s efforts in combating drug addiction.
