After several cases of tampering with the Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) portal —illegally alter family details in exchange for money — surfaced in Rohtak and Jhajjar districts, another case has come to light in Karnal.

Ankit Kumar of the Citizen Resource Information Department (CRID) and Sunny, In-charge of the Common Service Center (CSC) in Karnal, have been booked on charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust, conspiracy and violations under relevant sections of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008.

The action was taken based on a complaint filed by the District Citizen Resources Information Manager (DCREM) in this respect.

The DCREM stated that she had received information indicating that Ankit, who was deputed at the Municipal Committee office in Nissing, had illegally shared his login credentials, including ID, password and one-time password (OTP) with certain CSC operators and other individuals in exchange for money.

The evidence of this unauthorised activity could, as per information, be retrieved from his computer, mobile phone and social media accounts. “I immediately informed higher authorities and conducted a surprise inspection at the Nissing MC office in the presence of Ankit on Friday. Security analyst Arun Kumar found that login credentials and OTPs had been shared with others. The police were then called at the spot,” the DCREM said in the complaint.

Nissing SHO Ram Lal said Ankit had been arrested and further investigation into the matter was underway. “Ankit was produced before a local court, which remanded him in a three-day police custody,” the SHO added.

In March, a case was registered in Rohtak on the complaint of a CRID officer, who reported unauthorised modifications to the income details of 1,036 individuals from 711 families through tampering with the PPP portal. The issue involved verification of income records for residents of Rohtak district.
