Two children drowned after the motorcycle they were riding on fell into a drain in Faridabad on Thursday. Their parents and a sibling were rescued safely.

According to the police, the incident took place near the Tigaon bridge on Thursday when Dataram, a resident of Rajiv Colony, was returning on his motorcycle with his wife, Rajni, and three children — Sakshi (8), Meenakshi (6) and Nikhil (4). When they reached near the bridge, he lost control over the vehicle due to poor condition of the road, following which they fell into the drain.

Later, passersby came to their rescue, but Sakshi and Nikhil could not be saved. The police took the bodies into their custody and sent them for the post-mortem examination.

“The road is being constructed near the Tigaon bridge on the Ballabhgarh bypass road. Due to this, commuters have to pass through a narrow footpath, which Dataram was trying to cross. However, he lost balance over the motorcycle, and they all fell into the drain. We have not received any complaint as yet,” said ASI Bhupender Singh, the investigating officer.
