A two-day training programme for panchayat samiti members concluded at Rajiv Gandhi State Institute of Panchayati Raj and Community Development, Nilokheri. Dr Virender Singh Chauhan, Director, Haryana Institute of Rural Development, while addressing the participants, said the role of panchayat samitis was important in strengthening the country’s democratic system. “If the representatives of the panchayat samiti work with honesty, transparency and dedication, the goals of rural development can be achieved more effectively,” he added.

Chauhan stressed that every decision taken at the panchayat level must reflect transparency and community involvement. “Whatever work we do should be done with sincerity and a spirit of service. When the intention is service, the outcomes naturally become better,” he said. He urged panchayat samiti members to remain dedicated, accountable and active in public welfare.

Meanwhile, the participants also shared their experiences. Vikramjeet Cheema, chairperson of Pipli, informed that he had facilitated the wedding of 182 girls from economically weaker families. Geeta, a panchayat samiti member from Murthal, highlighted that many women in rural areas still faced difficulties and lacked awareness regarding menstrual hygiene.

She exhorted all participants to conduct awareness campaigns in villages to educate women about safe and hygienic practices during menstruation.
