2 ‘drug peddlers’ held with 2.642 kg charas worth Rs 5 lakh

An anti-narcotic cell of the Kaithal police have arrested two drug peddlers in two separate operations and recovered 2.642kg of charas from their possession. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is around Rs 5lakh. The police claimed it to be a major success under the Kaithal police ongoing Drug-Free Kaithal district campaign.

Giving details, DSP Crime Sushil Parkash informed that during evening patrolling near Ambala bypass naka, Kaithal, a team led by Sub-Inspector Rajbir Singh, in-charge of the anti-narcotic cell, received a tip-off about a suspect identified as Janeshwar, alias Billu, a resident of Keorak village, who had been selling charas for some time. The informer revealed that the accused was standing near the drain bridge on Ambala road, carrying a bag containing the contraband.

Acting swiftly, the police formed a raiding team and apprehended the suspect near the specified location. In the presence of DSP Birbhan, the suspect’s bag was searched as per legal procedure, leading to the recovery of 1.534 kg of charas. The accused was arrested on the spot by sub-inspector Mahender, and a case has been registered against him at Civil Lines Police Station, Kaithal.

In another case, ASI Rajesh Kumar of the anti-narcotic cell was conducting patrol duty near village Ujhana when the team received information that Gurmel Singh, a resident of Ujhana, was involved in the sale of charas and was on his way towards Kaithal to sell the substance. Acting on the tip-off, the police set up a checkpoint near the water supply, Ujhana, and intercepted the suspect.

After a search conducted in the presence of DSP Lalit Kumar, the team recovered 1.108 kg of charas from a polythene bag inside the suspect’s carry bag. The accused was taken into custody on the spot by sub-inspector Balraj Singh, and a case has been registered against him at Sadar Police Station, Kaithal.“We are determining the source of arrival of the drugs,” he added.

Issuing a warning, DSP Parkash said, “No drug peddler will be spared in Kaithal district. The police are committed to eradicating the menace of drugs and ensuring a safe, drug-free society.”
