2 held for looting cellphone, earrings of woman in Panipat

The accused allegedly looted a mobile phone and gold earrings from an elderly woman after beating her near the Kala Amb road in the city.
The accused have been identified as Rajnikant, alias Sonu, of Lakhimpur Khiri district in Uttar Pradesh, who was presently residing near Nimbri village, and Ashok of Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh, who was presently residing at Vidyanand Colony in Panipat city.
Both the accused were drug addicts. They usually roamed on the same road to loot commuters. Notably, 60-year-old Rajrani in her complaint to the Chandni Bagh police stated that she went to railway station to enquire about a train ticket for Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh. After enquiring about the ticket details, she sat on a chair at the railway station. Meanwhile, a boy came there. The victim along with the boy sat in an auto-rickshaw and went to Sanjay Chowk, where they boarded another three-wheeler for Sanoli. They left the auto-rickshaw near Ugrakheri village where the boy called one person identified as Ashok. After that all went to Kala Amb. The boy and Ashok looted a mobile phone and gold earrings from the victim on the Kala Amb road. When the victim resisted, the accused thrashed her and fled from the spot. Following complaint, the Chandni Bagh police registered a case and began a probe into the matter.
Superintendent of Police Bhupender Singh handed over the case to CIA-3 unit. Inspector Vijay, CIA-3 in-charge, said after receiving inputs, both the accused were arrested from the Kala Amb road on Saturday evening. Inspector Vijay further said that the accused admitted that they had looted an elderly woman. The accused disclosed that to buy drugs, they earned money through shortcuts, including crime, the Inspector said. The accused were produced in a court on Monday after completion of one-day police remand which sent them to judicial custody. — TNS
