A speeding truck on the National Highway-9 near Chormar Khera village mowed down two persons and injured two others on Friday night. The truck driver fled from the spot after the accident.
Jasveer Singh, a resident of Sahu Wala village, was on his way to Rajasthan on a motorcycle with his wife Suman, their children Shankar and Sahil, and his brother-in-law Sukhir Singh. As the motorcycle ran out of fuel, the group was forced to walk near Chormar Khera village.
As they approached a petrol pump near a canal bridge, a truck from Sirsa hit them from behind. The collision claimed the lives of Sukhir (23) and Shankar (8) on the spot, while Suman and Sahil sustained serious injuries. Jasveer, who was walking slightly ahead, witnessed the incident and screamed for help.
The police arrived after 20 minutes and rushed the injured to the Odhan CHC, from where Suman and Sahil were referred to Sirsa due to their critical condition. A case has been registered against the unidentified truck driver.
Jasveer expressed his anguish, recalling how no one stopped to help despite his desperate cries on the highway.
The police have started an investigation and efforts are underway to locate the driver.
