The police have arrested two more criminals involved in a firing incident during the encounter with officials on January 6 near Mundkati village in the district. The total arrests in this connection have gone up to four.

DSP (Crime) Manoj Verma said the two accused had been nabbed in a joint operation carried by the CIA and the officials of the local police station on Tuesday night. He said they had been wanted in 12 cases of murder, attempt to murder, robbery, possession of illicit weapons and dacoity registered at various police stations. He said a total of four accused had been involved in opening fire during the encounter that took place around 3.30 am on January 6. He said two of the four accused had managed to flee the spot.

The encounter took place after a police team, led by Sub-Inspector Deepak Gulia, had reached the spot on the basis of information that some criminals had been hiding at a spot near the village. As the police had asked the accused to surrender, they opened fire on the officials in a bid to escape. However, in retaliatory firing by the officials, two of the them sustained gunshot wounds, which led to their arrest.

The police seized two countrymade pistols, five live cartridges, three spent cartridges and a motorcycle.
