20 take part in debate on child marriage

The Legal Literacy Cell and Women Cell of Dayanand Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Kurukshetra, organised a debate competition “Shakti: Empowering Voices against Child Marriage” on Tuesday.

The main objective of organising this competition was to make the students aware of the laws, their rights and duties on the topic as child marriage is a social evil and a crime. The students participated and put forward their arguments in the form of pros and cons and argued on the ill effects of child marriage and the legal provisions against it.

Principal Dr Upasana Ahuja, while addressing the students, said that organising such competitions will undoubtedly reduce cases of child marriage. Putting an end to this menace is not only the responsibility of the administration but of every person. She also urged the students to bring awareness in society.

A total of 20 students in 10 teams participated in this competition. Vishakha and Yogita, students of MA final year secured the first position, Charu and Divya, students of MA final year, were second and Gurvinder Kaur and Komal, students of BA final year, third.
