2,383 vehicles checked, 155 fined in Sonepat night drive

26 impounded
Two accused arrested for car and cash robbery at gun point by the Mohana police team during a drive in Sonepat on Saturday.

The Sonepat police launched a special night domination campaign on Saturday night to tackle rising crime, drug trafficking and traffic violations. The campaign was initiated on the directions of Commissioner of Police and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Mamta Singh. Nearly 90 per cent of police personnel were deployed on the roads between 11 pm and 4 am.

ADGP Mamta Singh said police teams checked approximately 2,383 vehicles, of which 155 were issued challans and 26 were impounded. Special nakas were set up across the district to inspect two-wheelers, four-wheelers and light vehicles.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Narender Kadyan said that hotels, dharamshalas and other public places were also inspected during the night domination programme. Two individuals were arrested in separate cases related to illegal liquor. Another suspect was arrested for possessing illegal weapons. Two others were apprehended for their involvement in an armed robbery of a vehicle and cash, while one person was arrested for possessing a stolen motorcycle.

DCP Kadyan further stated that the accused in the car robbery case were identified as Aakash of Old Bus Stand, Rohtak, and Amit of Shiv Nagar, Gohana. In his complaint lodged on June 20, Rakesh of Devru Road alleged that on the evening of June 19, he had gone to drop his friend Yashpal at Karewri village. As he stopped near a village turn, three youths on a motorcycle approached, opened the driver’s side window, pointed pistols at him and assaulted him. They then robbed his car, Rs 2.60 lakh in cash, Rs 26,000 from his wallet and three mobile phones from the car.

Following the complaint, Mohana police registered a case and began an investigation. The accused were produced in court and remanded to three days’ police custody.

In another case, the Kundli police arrested an individual, Vikram of Jhundpur village, for possessing a motorcycle without a number plate. Investigation revealed that the motorcycle had been stolen from Delhi just one day earlier, with a case registered at Alipur Police Station. The accused was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.

Additionally, two more individuals, one a bail jumper and the other a proclaimed offender, were arrested during the campaign and produced in court.
