DSP (Crime) Manoj Verma said the accused were arrested after a joint operation carried out by the Palwal Detective Staff and the Hodal CIA team at Ramnagar village in the district on Wednesday.

The police had received information that some of the accused had been hiding at a spot here.

Upon reaching the spot, the police team asked the accused to surrender, the DSP added, stating that one of them — reported to be a hard-core criminal — opened fire on the cops.

He said as a bullet hit the bulletproof jacket of Sub-Inspector Amit, and the cops opened fire in retaliation, injuring one of the accused on his leg.

The arrested persons are among those accused of opening fire at three persons at their home at Kuslipur village on January 26.

It is reported that the accused, said to be 10-15 in number, not only opened fire on the residents of the house, but also damaged a car, a bike and chairs at the house. The accused then fled the spot. An old enmity is reported to be the cause behind the incident. No one was injured in the attack.
