Three miscreants wanted in the kidnapping and murder of a Delhi youth were nabbed by the local police after an encounter on the Barahi road in Bahadurgarh area of the district in the wee hours. The miscreants sustained bullet injuries in their legs during the exchange of fire.

They have been admitted to the Trauma Centre in Bahadurgarh for treatment. The police have recovered three firearms from them. The miscreants — identified as Sunil, alias Sheenu, and Ankit, alias Malho, of Rohad village and Vikas, alias Vicky, of Dehkhora village of the district — carried a reward of Rs 5,000. The police recovered three illegal firearms and eight live cartridges from their possession.

“The CIA-2 Bahadurgarh team, led by Inspector Ravinder Kumar, got a tip-off that three miscreants armed with weapons were standing near a drain on the Barahi road with the intention to perpetrate another crime. Acting swiftly, the police rushed to the spot but the miscreants tried to run on seeing them. When they were told to surrender, they opened fire on the police,” said the police spokesman.

He said the bullets hit police vehicles. Thereafter, the police chased them after disembarking from the vehicle. They fired on the policemen again. In self-defence, the policemen also fired at them, leaving the trio injured, he said. The miscreants were then taken to the Trauma Centre in Bahadurgarh, he added.

The police spokesman claimed that several crime cases had been registered against the accused. Sunit was facing cases of theft, loot and snatching at various police stations in Bahadurgarh while Ankit was an accused in a case of theft and loot. Vikas was booked by the Sector-6 police in Bahadurgarh in connection with a case of theft, he added.

Pradeep Nain, ACP (Crime), Bahaudrgarh, said on August 16, a young man, Deepak Manjhi, employed at Delhi Jal Board had come to ITI-Sampla from Delhi to take exams. “Four miscreants kidnapped him and demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from his family. When the criminals came to receive the ransom amount, the police managed to arrest one of them while three others fled the spot. Meanwhile, the accused strangled the kidnapped youth to death and threw him in a canal near Rohtak’s Karor village after tying his hands and legs. Since then, these criminals had been on the police radar,” said the ACP, adding that further investigation was underway.
