The traffic police here have issued penalties to 369 trucks over the past 48 hours for violating the ban on heavy vehicle entry during prescribed time limits in the city.

A police spokesperson said officers have started issuing challans to vehicles that fail to comply with the ban, which restricts the entry of heavy vehicles from 7 am to 10 am and between 5 pm and 11 pm daily. This measure is aimed at addressing traffic congestion and jams during peak hours, when vehicle movement is at its highest.

It was revealed that 292 vehicles were penalised on Thursday, and another 77 were challaned on Friday. The drive would continue indefinitely as part of efforts to alleviate the city’s ongoing traffic issues. The ban was implemented on December 5.
