38K bottles of cough syrup seized in Sonepat, two land in police net

A team of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested two persons and seized 38,400 bottles of codeine phosphate cough syrup from them.

In a statement here today, DSP Satyander Kumar of the NCB, Rohtak, said the action was taken under a special campaign “Nasha Mukt Haryana” which is being run across the state.

“The consignment — containing a commercial quantity of the cough syrup — was seized from a truck on the KMP flyover in Rai, Sonepat. The suspects have been identified as Sudhir of Beri in Jhajjar district and Jitender of Gochhi village in Jhajjar district. Both were currently residing at Janta Colony in Rohtak,” said the DSP.

“The search was conducted on the spot in the presence of Duty Magistrate Rajpal, ACP (Crime), Sonepat. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered against the suspects at the Rai police station,” he said.

He also appealed to residents that if they come across drugs being sold anywhere, they must report the matter on the Haryana NCB’s toll-free number 90508-91508.

“Prompt action will be taken on the information and the informer’s name will not be revealed under any circumstances,” the DSP said.
