4 killed in accident on Panipat flyover

Four persons were killed and one sustained serious injuries in an accident that occurred on the elevated highway (flyover) on the NH-44 near Sanjay Chowk at midnight on Friday. The car got burnt completely, after getting hit by a truck on the highway.

The deceased have been identified as Nitin, Rohit and Akshya of Kundli and Rahul of Sersa village while the injured has been identified as Saurav of Jati Kalan village of Sonepat district.

The bodies have been sent to the mortuary in the Civil Hospital while Saurav was admitted to a private hospital. Saurav, in his complaint to the police, said that he, along with Nitin, Rohit, Akshaya and Rahul, were on the way to Panipat on Friday night in a car. He alleged that as they reached the flyover around 12 am, a speeding truck hit their car from the rear and dragged it for some distance, after which their car collided with the divider. After that, their car caught fire.

He said that all of them got badly injured in the accident. The commuters admitted him and Nitin to the private hospital while Rahul, Rohit and Akshya were rushed to the Civil Hospital. The doctors declared Rahul, Rohit and Akshya dead while Nitin succumbed to his injuries.

The police have registered a case against an unknown truck driver. SI Ashish Kumar said all four deceased had private jobs and were on the way to Panipat to celebrate a birthday party.
