The CIA-2 unit had reportedly got a tip-off that four criminals associated with Lawrence Bishnoi gang were seen around the cremation ground at Babyal village.

The accused were identified as Shashank Pandey of Uttar Pradesh, Sahil (alias Bagga), Ashwani (alias Manish), and Bunty of Ambala Cantonment.

A case has been registered against them under Sections 25(1)(A), 6 and 8 of the IPC at the Mahesh Nagar police station. They were produced in a local court that remanded them in six-day police custody.

Superintendent of Police Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said, “A campaign is being run to seize illegal arms. In that process, CIA-2 unit led by Sub-Inspector Virender got a tip-off after which a raid was conducted. The team arrested the accused and seized arms and ammunition from their possession. They all have criminal background.”

The SP said, “Shashank was arrested in connection with a robbery case registered at the Parao police station in Ambala in 2020. He was also involved in a robbery in Jaipur. He came out from the jail on bail recently. Sahil and Bunty were involved in murder cases, while Ashwani was named in assault cases. Shashank had procured eight weapons from Madhya Pradesh of which three have been seized, the remaining will be seized soon. The accused were planning to commit some crime. During the remand, we will gather information about the source of weapons and their purpose.”

SP Jashandeep Singh said, “Their no direct role in Sidhu Moosewala’s murder has come to light so far. They were involved in other criminal cases. The investigation is, however, still on.”

Meanwhile, CIA-2 in-charge Virender Walia said, “The four came in contact with each other in the Ambala Central Jail. They were involved in different cases.”
