As many as 44 villages of Rohtak district have been selected to participate in the Model Solar Village competition.

Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata said one village in each district of the country will be developed as a model solar village under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The village which wins the competition will get a cash reward of Rs 1 crore for development of solar-energy infrastructure.

He said as per the guidelines of the scheme, a competition will be organised for the selected villages by October 8, 2025.

"The main objective of this scheme is to promote the use of green and clean solar energy in the villages across the country with the installation of solar-power panels on rooftops," he said.

The underlying idea behind the exercise is to make the villages self-sufficient to fulfil their electricity requirement and help the residents save money spent on electricity bills.

"All houses and government buildings in the model village will run exclusively on solar energy round the clock.

It will be done by installing solar-power panels on the roofs of residential and public buildings, solar-based lighting system in all houses, solar-based water system in villages, solar pumps for agricultural work and solar lights on the streets and roads of the villages," said Khadgata.

The 44 villages of the district selected for the Model Solar Village competition include Titoli, Chidi, Sanghi, Khidwali, Ismaila, Kharawar, Bhalout, Jassia, Hasangarh, Rudki, Samchana, Rithal Phogat, Gandhra, Makdauli Kalan, Pakasma, Kiloi Dopana, Kiloi Khas, Kansala, Gharaunthi, Bahu Akbarpur, Farmana Khas, Lakhan Majra, Girawad, Kishangarh, Madina Korsan, Madina Gindharan, Nindana Tigri, Mokhra Khas, Sisar Khas, Kharkada Chhajan, Bhaini Maharajpur, Bainsi, Bahalba, Mokhra Khedi, Kahnaur, Baland, Sundana, Baniyani, Karontha, Ningana, Katesara, Pilana and Ritoli.
